There's No Limit to Not Confronting

Goes the saying, "There's no limit to the worse."

A long time ago I happened to listen to a story on the radio, and even though I am unable to find it, what matters is that its plot now comes in handy as an example to describe the point:

There is no limit to NOT confronting; the individual has an INFINITE capacity for not confronting.

And the obvious consequence is that there is no limit to the Evil, disasters, sufferings and tragedies resulting from it, too.

In that story, narrated in subjective view, the protagonist is before a firing squand, and lives his last moments before being shot.
To be precise, the protagonist lives, and narrates, his last moment after the shot, before the bullets reach him, and the point is that he dilates that moment to infinity - in fact, for almost the entire story: the story of his infinite lucubrations, that to the infinite dilate that moment.
This dilatation is possible because it occurs inside his mind, and this demonstrates the degree of disconnection from reality that can be achieved.
This mental disconnection is inversely proportional to one's mastery over the real environment: to the extent that one flees defeated by reality, one takes refuge in an artificial comfort zone.
Instead of fighting, one flees.
The mechanism is obvious and well known; the point is that it has no limit.

Let us take for an example the ongoing democide: every human being still alive is a victim of attempted murder, premeditated and continuous. WELL, when you try to let them confront THAT, you may see first hand an INFINITE capacity for not confronting.
